GET TO KNOW A
OUR HISTORY

The Genfest is an event within the youth sector of the Focolare Movement, bringing together people from all over the world with diverse religious and non-religious beliefs, ethnicities, and cultures.

Founded by Chiara Lubich, its central aim is to cooperate in the building of a united world, which involves making humanity one large family, naturally marked by diversity. In Brazil, the Focolare Movement has been present since 1959 and currently has 67 dissemination centers and around 82,000 members, spread across more than 500 cities.

At the conclusion of the Genfest 2018, in Manila, Philippines, Brazil was announced as the chosen country to host Genfest 2024. Since then, a preparatory journey has begun, involving various aspects and numerous people.

The event is held every six years at an international level, and in 2024, for the first time, Genfest will take place in Brazil, from July 12th to 24th, in a journey divided into three phases. The first phase will involve social action throughout Brazil and Latin America, while phases 2 and 3 will take place in Aparecida (SP).

GET TO KNOW (AND FEEL)
our history

And what is the main goal
of Genfest 2024?

The Genfest is a large international festival that celebrates ideas, actions, and initiatives towards a united world. During these days, you will have the opportunity to experience a unique journey, exploring the cultural and religious diversity of Brazil and Latin America. You will take part in thematic paths, make inspiring connections, and get to know people and initiatives that are already promoting universal brotherhood.

We want to awaken the youth’s protagonism by connecting, promoting, and celebrating actions that care for the environment and people, especially the most vulnerable.

All of this will be carried out in three phases.

CREATION OF
THE GENFEST LOGO

The winning artwork was developed by the young Italian Luana Gravina and communicates symbolic aspects representing universal brotherhood with the theme ‘Together to Care’. The logo features elements representing different cultures intertwining to form a complex figure, suggesting the connection between different worldviews.

It consists of 4 lines symbolizing, in number and color, the four elements of nature (water, air, fire, and earth). What makes this artwork special? When placed side by side repetitively, it brings the circles to life, representing unity. Ideally, the lines create a figure resembling a cross, a fundamental element of the spirituality of Unity, as defined by the Focolare Charism.

The peculiarity of this artwork is its ability to become a pattern: when placed side by side repetitively, it brings the circles to life, representing unity. Ideally, the lines create a figure resembling a cross, a fundamental element of the spirituality of Unity, as defined by the Focolare Charism.
